Tourism Expo JAPAN

Tourism Expo Japan has shined a light on tourism through its effectiveness in revitalizing regional economies and job creation, and has developed as a joint governmental and private effort to encourage both overseas and domestic tourism and lure visitors to Japan from overseas as it aims to becomes a more attractive tourist destination.

Since 2014's "hop year" when TABI Fair Japan and JATA Tabihaku merged, to 2015's "step year" and 2016's "jump year", this event has been attracting tourism professionals from the world over. Tourism Expo Japan welcomes booths from 140 countries and regions, all 47 Japanese prefectures, and 1,181 companies and organizations to form the largest tourism event in the world.

The Japan National Tourism Organization will join the Japan Association of Travel Agents and the Japan Travel and Tourism Association as a third organizer in 2017, where they will contribute to further stimulation of overseas and domestic travel, as well of inbound visitors to Japan, and the further promotion of Japanese tourism in the run up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games at this event.

2017's theme of "New Opportunities for Sustainable Destinations Japan and the world" continues on from the 2016 Expo and the 2017 Expo plans to accommodate various discussions for sustainable development of the tourism industry. Day 1 (September 21st) will see the "Global Tourism Forum" and the "Asia Tourism Leaders Forum", which will analyze the issues faced by the global tourism industry and various case studies, and deepen the discussion of these current trends on th global tourism. Day 2 (September 22nd) will involve symposiums that discusses the themes of overseas travel, inbound travel to Japan, and domestic tourism. Here we will lay bare our future vision for the development of the tourism industry and businesses. In 2017 we are also due to run a new event in association with MICE.

This event will feature booths from over 140 countries and regions throughout the world, all 47 of Japan's prefectures, and will see people associated with the tourism industry from across the globe all gather in one place. In addition to introducing a new structure of "In Booth appointments” for the Trade day, we will also expand the exhibition and attendance of new suppliers (ICT, inbound support companies and groups), and plan to conduct business discussions within booths. On the Saturday and Sunday general public days visitors will be able to enjoy direct appeal from each region via the latest travel and sightseeing information, talkshows from regional ambassadors, samples of famous products, food, and drink, and VR experiences. Many countries will also be holding dance shows.

Tourism Expo Japan will also be enhancing business meetings in 2017!
From 2017 Tourism Expo Japan will become a new stage for strengthening BtoB business discussions, will expand its event programs, and will enhance cooperation with VISIT JAPAN Travel and MICE Mart. In addition to domestic and outbound business discussions and media meetings, the Expo will focus on other industry areas as a way to offer "fresh business development" by newly launching inbound-related business discussions and tour operator business discussions.

These awards recognize those who contribute to the development and expansion of the tourism industry, adding synergistic effects to the “Tourism Expo Japan,” while also giving recognition to exceptionally sustainable initiatives by associations, organizations, and companies in Japan and overseas. Award Winners will be prized at the Tourism Expo Japan’s Opening Ceremony. Application will start from 1st of March, 2017 on this website.

We will show the world Japanese brand appeal through Tokyo which has been attracting a spotlight as the venue of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. In 2017 we will encourage exchange between attendees, aim for international exchange, and create a space where domestic and international attendees, people related to the exhibition, and those in the industry can interact. This will be Tourism Expo Japan's biggest network reception!

This is a report of“Tourism EXPO Japan Forum 2016” held in Tokyo Big Sight and BELLESALLE TOKYO NIHOMBASHI on 22 and 23 Sept, 2016.
